but she was glad she called 911 and she did not regret filing charges. This had to STOP! And she was more determined than ever to not let his anger win.

Obviously this event was more intense, more upsetting. And it requires a much stronger, definite response. If you face such a situation, you must be prepared to follow Michelle's example.

Let's summarize it below:

Time of day: Around 6 PM.

Location: at home.

People involved: Michelle and Jack, kids outside in backyard.

Principle violated: yelling, door slamming, non-affectionate touching.

What he says and does: He slammed the door and yelled at the kids. He yelled at her defiantly when she tried to talk to him about his anger. He refused a time out. He grabbed her when she tried to leave and banged her face into the side of the door. He pulled her hair and tried to pin her down on the bed.

What you say and do: Michelle tried to discuss the situation calmly. She asked for a time out and she tried to leave the room. When he became violent, she called 911. When the police came, she filed charges. She did not try to get Jack out of jail.

How you might feel afterward: Michelle was dazed, shaken, discouraged, but still committed to stick to the plan and not let his anger win.

Even though this may be unpleasant to think about, it is very important to plan now what you will say and do if you have to. Visualize a severe anger scenario, maybe a worst-case scenario.

Describe it below, and explain how you will respond.
